Thinking of Moving to Canada from South Africa?

Relocating to a different country is definitely the most exciting thing you can do, but it is also very stressful. A new country, whether you have been there before or not, is still scary. You don’t know the people, you don’t know the shops and you definitely don’t know how to get around. If you have been in South Africa all your life but have decided that you need a change, good on you – change is good. If you have a large family you would have had to put a lot of thinking into this move regarding the children’s schooling and taking them away from their friends. For older children the immigration would be the most difficult on them.

Canada is a rather large country, so it would be a wise decision to know exactly where in Canada you are going before you actually get there. Research it completely like its climate, landscape, people, shopping malls and just absolutely everything you can think of. If you go in there completely unprepared you are going to find it difficult to adapt, but if you at least know a thing or two it won’t be that bad. You can still pretend you know what’s going on! Just learn the important things and you will be able to get through it with some time.

The one thing you have to consider with a Canada migration is what season you go in. Canada in winter is rather bad as there are sometimes severe snow falls that you cannot escape. Temperatures in the country can go as low as - 40 degrees and that is bad. If you have no choice but to move in the winter months, at least make sure you have your accommodation sorted before you get there. You should also make sure you have pre-arranged transport for when you are in the new area so you don’t have to rely on public transport during bad weather conditions.

Another wise decision for you to make is to sort out your belongings before you go, if you are taking everything with you. Plan what you are going to do and plan it well. Do not take everything in your home. Once you get to Canada, surely after some time you can start to buy your own new furniture. Sell whatever you don’t use before you move. Make some extra cash; you are going to need it! If you don’t already have jobs lined up for you and your partner, you are going to need a lot of money to survive on until you do both have a job.

No matter where you move to, it is important that you know what language they speak. Even if you aren’t fluent in the language, at least know a little bit. When you are moving to Canada you should know the English language as well as some French; it will help you along very well. You can never be too prepared for something this huge. Moving to a new country is a really big deal and you should get in as much information as you can.

Your best bet is to consider the services of a qualified immigration agency in South Africa to assist you with your decision making and Canada immigration application process.
