New UK Immigration Law Helps Protect Local Workers

In recent weeks, the government has passed new  UK immigration laws that will help protect jobs for the British workforce.  Home Security has implemented a set of controls that will not only help improve the local economy but will require that UK resident workers have the first chance to fill any vacancies before such jobs can be offered to workers abroad.  The recommendations laid out by the new laws were suggested by the Migration Advisory Committee.

The new  UK immigration rules will tighten mandates already in place.  Basically, these new requirements will ensure that skilled workers in the United Kingdom are given every opportunity for employment within the UK under a points-based system.  The points-based system has been an effective tool in effectively dealing with an ever-changing economy.  These regulations also require the increase of the minimum salary to qualify as a skilled work from £17,000 to £20,000.

Previously, all jobs were required to remain advertised and listed in JobCentre Plus for only two weeks.  Under these new  UK immigration laws, this period has been extended to four weeks.  It is not until this period has ended that British employers may seek individuals from outside of the United Kingdom or Europe.  This ensures that British workers are the first in line for work and have more time in which to find such available jobs.

Under these new  UK immigration rules, current employees from overseas are also affected.  The British government will be extending the qualifying period for all overseas workers who may want to transfer to work in their company's UK-based offices.  In order to make this transition, employees must be employed by their firm for at least one calendar year.  The previous length required was only six months.  If these criteria are not met, these employees may not emigrate or transfer to the United Kingdom.

With the implementation of these new  UK immigration and employment regulations, it is thought that businesses will be able to more easily recruit skilled workers already living within the United Kingdom.  It can be seen as an investment in the skills of the existing workforce as well as an investment in the UK's economy.  The 16 recommendations put forth by the Migration Advisory Committee will not only support local workers, but will also facilitate trade, travel, and study within the United Kingdom.

Furthermore, other  UK immigration legal changes have launched proposed modifications to the fees that the UK Border Agency charges for its immigration and visa services.  These modifications, which would take place in 2011, will most likely affect earned citizenship and the fees that are charged for such a privilege.  This plan also involves the introduction of other chargeable services that are not currently on the table, such as optional yet premium services for a higher fee.  The idea behind these changes would be that those who benefit from the UK's immigration services and system should be the ones who help fund it as well.

The new  UK immigration laws and regulations will benefit both the social and economic standing of the United Kingdom and its people.  Lawmakers are reviewing current laws and proposals which are intended to maintain a modern and efficient immigration and migratory system that balances the interest of legitimate migrants and UK citizens alike.
