If you are currently overseas (outside of the UK) and wish to travel to the UK you may need a visa to enter the country. Visas and Entry Clearance documents are issued by the visa sections of British Embassies and High Commissions throughout the world.
There are more than 40 different types of visas; entry clearance and work permits available for a variety of applicants ranging from Visitors to Working Holidaymakers and Business people to Ancestry applicants.
It is for this reason that we do not publish details of every visa type and its requirements, but we offer an assessment service which will assist you in determining which visa will be appropriate for your entry to Britain.
The most common types of visa and entry clearances are:
- Commonwealth Working Holiday Visas: for young people from Commonwealth countries aged between 17 and 30 years wishing to spend time in the UK on vacation and working part-time to fund their stay. Valid for up to 2 years.
- Visitor visas: Depending on where you reside, you may be required to apply for a visitor’s visa, which allow you a stay of up to 3 months and in some instances longer.
- Student visas: You must be able to show that you have been accepted on a course of study at a university; private education institution or an independent fee paying school, for full time study, and you must be able to pay for your tuition as well as prove funding for your upkeep whilst you are in Britain.
- Trainee Visa: Companies and institutions which provide training can apply for individuals to enter the UK for the purpose of being trained in a particular skill relevant to that company’s activity.
PERMANENT VISAS:
- Business Visas: Available for business people wishing to establish or purchase a business in the UK, and subject to conditions.
- Sole Representatives: Companies wanting to transfer a key employee or manager for duty at an associate company in the UK can do so through applying for this visa.
- Writer or Artist: If your profession is one that is linked to the arts or similar cultural development and you derive your income from your profession you may enter the UK on this visa.
- Investor: Britain welcomes investment and subject to certain conditions, individuals could obtain residence through this category.
- Ancestry: If you have a grandparent who was born in the UK you may be entitled to the Ancestry visa which will allow you entry and residence in the UK.
- Work Permit: The work permit is available to individuals who have
secured employment in the UK and where the employer has successfully
applied for exemption through the Resident Labour Test, and demonstrated
that adequate advertising was undertaken to offer the job to British resident.
- Highly Skilled Migration Program: This category offers highly qualified individuals with relatively high remuneration packages the opportunity to enter Britain without restriction to engage in job search activities which will lead to work permits, free of the restrictions listed above.
